Boca Raton, FL - Junior pitcher Kevin Alexander continues to lead the Florida Atlantic University baseball program’s 2012 Iron Owl Award competition. Players have completed seven of the 10 events in the annual offseason challenge that features tests that identify the strongest baseball player in the program -- mentally and physically.

The latest event had players throwing a 12-pound medicine ball over their heads. Two tosses were recorded, with the distances totaled for the player’s overall score.

Senior outfielder Dylan Siegel captured his second event victory by tossing a total of 118 feet. His second throw covered 61 feet.

Junior outfielder Tyler Rocklein finished second with tosses covering 109.7 feet, while senior outfielder Corey Keller finished third with 107.1 feet.

Alexander leads with 281 points after recording three event victories. Sophomore pitcher Bo Logan is in second place with 253 points, while junior outfielder Geoff Jimenez is closely behind at 251 points. Senior pitchers Michael Sylvestri (248) and Gregg Bennis (245.5) round out the top five in this fall’s highly competitive challenge. View the complete results here.

Future events will award points based on physical strength, knowledge of the game and academic performance.

Former Iron Owl Award winners include Lou Morey (2008 and 2009), Alex Hudak (2010) and Ahmed Garcia (2011).
