Boca Raton, FL - Senior outfielder Dylan Siegel took top honors in the sled pull event, but junior pitcher Kevin Alexander continues to lead the Florida Atlantic University baseball program's 2012 Iron Owl Award competition.

This annual offseason contest features eight tests that identify the strongest baseball player in the program -- mentally and physically.

The fifth event challenged players to pull a sled carrying two 45-pound plates 50 yards across the football practice field. Then, the players had to turn around and pull the sled, while back peddling, back to the starting line.

Siegel completed the race in just over 32 seconds to edge out junior outfielder Tyler Rocklein. Freshman pitcher Esteban Puerta finished third.

Alexander has accumulated 240 points through the first five Iron Owl events, and now enjoys a 28-point lead over sophomore pitcher Bo Logan. Senior pitcher Michael Sylvestri is in third place with 191 points, followed by senior pitcher Gregg Bennis (183.5), freshman infielder Cain Spangler (181) and senior outfielder Nathan Pittman (181).

Future events will award points based on physical strength, knowledge of the game and academic performance during the fall semester.

Past Iron Owl Award winners include Lou Morey (2008 and 2009), Alex Hudak (2010) and Ahmed Garcia (2011).
