BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University baseball's Kevin Abraham, a rising senior catcher, was chosen by ESPN Deportes 760 AM as the 2017 Male Athlete of the Year at Wednesday's Hispanic Heritage Awards banquet held in West Palm Beach.
"Receiving this award was a once-in-a-lifetime experience," said Abraham. "Being able to share my story amongst the amazing people of my community, and being able to interact and impact others in a positive way is always a humbling moment."
The Miami native returned to the baseball program after a year away in 2016, battling a well-documented cancer diagnosis. He appeared in 39 games as a redshirt junior, starting 32, and will suit up for his fifth year in the spring. The Owls' 2018 campaign is slated to begin in mid-February.
