Alex Hudak hit three home runs and helped the Owls sweep Alabama to being the 2012 season

Boca Raton, FL - Any championship season is filled with many dramatic moments and fantastic finishers. That certainly was the case for the 2012 Florida Atlantic University baseball team as it captured the Sun Belt Conference’s regular-season title -- the Owls’ second league crown in the last three seasons.
FAU compiled a 32-22 record, marking the 14th consecutive winning season for the program. The team had a 19-8 mark in SBC play.

The Scene: The Owls open the season by returning to the venue of its 2002 NCAA regional championship – the only regional title in school history.
Supporting Information: FAU outscores the Southeastern Conference team by a decisive 23-8 margin in the three-game series. The sweep didn’t go unnoticed: The team grabbed National Team of the Week honors by CollegeBaseballInsider.com and was featured in ESPN.com’s national college baseball blog, and seniors Ryan Garton and Alex Hudak captured Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week recognition.
The Play: The team shows Alabama it meant business in the season opener, defeating the Crimson Tide by a 5-2 score. Starting pitcher Ryan Garton scattered three hits in six quality innings to set a positive tone for the rest of the successful season.
Junior Jake Meiers follows Garton’s lead with a strong pitching performance, and the offense broke out in a big way, leading to a 9-2 victory in the second game.
FAU scores nine runs again to complete the sweep. Alex Hudak connected on two home runs in the finale. The senior outfielder hit three home runs over the course of the series and bats .500 at the plate to pace the offensive attack.
Key Stat: FAU becomes the first team since 1899 to sweep a three-game non-conference series at Alabama.
