Baseball's McCormack and Abraham among Those Honored for Walter/Frates Inspiration Award
Aug. 3, 2017

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Two members of the Florida Atlantic University baseball program, Head Coach John McCormack and Kevin Abraham, a soon-to-be fifth-year catcher, were recognized on Thursday as two honorees of CollegeBaseballInsider.com's Tom Walter/Pete Frates College Baseball Inspiration Award.

McCormack and Abraham, who each battled and recovered from cancer diagnoses during the 2016 campaign, have had their stories documented on numerous occasions. McCormack just completed his ninth season as Owls' head coach and 27th year with FAU. Abraham will enter into his redshirt senior year in the fall, returning to play this past season after missing all of 2016.

The award, started by CBI in 2011, is named for Tom Walter, the head coach at Wake Forest who donated a kidney to freshman outfielder Kevin Jordan before the 2011 season, and Pete Frates, whose courageous battle with ALS captured the nation's attention with the Ice Bucket Challenge.
