Baseball's Tyler Frank Officially a Member of Team USA
July 12, 2017

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- With the announcement of the Collegiate National Team roster on Wednesday, Tyler Frank of Florida Atlantic University has become the first baseball player in program history to be selected as a member of Team USA.

Frank was part of a select few collegians invited to Cary, North Carolina, last month for the USA Baseball Tryout Camp and survived to this, the final 24-man roster. The Loxahatchee, Florida native is the lone Conference USA representative on the national team, and one of just three players both hailing from and playing collegiately in Florida (joining Tyler Holton from Florida State and Tallahassee, and UCF's Bryce Tucker, from Apopka).

The final iteration of the squad was chosen ahead of the Wednesday night opening matchup in the USA vs. Japan Collegiate All-Star Series. Team USA has won both of its international friendship series thus far, over Chinese Taipei and Cuba, going 7-2 against those teams. With Tuesday night's 6-4 win over the Futures League All-Stars, they improved to 12-3 overall during their 2017 slate.

Frank, who will be a junior in the fall for the Owls, has started 10 of the 12 games he's appeared in and has been asked to play every infield position as well as catcher and leftfield for the national team. Highlights of his summer have included scoring the game-winning run on June 28 against Chinese Taipei, and on June 23, a 3-for-4 game with two doubles, three RBI, and five runs scored.

Here are the game dates, times and locations for the best-of-five game series between USA vs. Japan:

  • Tonight (June 12), 7 p.m., Dunkin Donuts Park in Hartford, Connecticut
  • Thursday, June 13, 7 p.m., Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field in Worcester, Massachusetts
