Boca Raton, Fla. - Posting 10 victories and tossing three complete games have earned Florida Atlantic University junior pitcher Paul Davissecond team All-South Central Region honors for the 2011 season. The Brandon native becomes the 34th player in program history to receive all-region honors by the American Baseball Collegiate Association.
"Congratulations to Paul, as this honor is well deserved. He had a fabulous year," said John McCormack, FAU's head baseball coach. "It is always nice when the student-athletes get recognized for a job well done."
Davis, a 17th round selection by the San Francisco Giants in this year's Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, anchored the Owls' pitching rotation this spring with a 10-1 record and 2.87 earned run average. He led the team with 73 strikeouts and made 13 starts.
The right hander earned first team All-Sun Belt Conference honors after pitching a complete-game shutout at FIU on May 20. He struck out a career-best nine batters against the Golden Panthers. Davis earlier went the distance against FIU on March 19. He rounded out his complete-game performances against Louisiana-Monroe on April 16.
FAU finished the 2011 season with a 32-25 record for its 13th consecutive winning campaign. The team finished fourth in the Sun Belt Conference regular season with a 17-13 mark.
