Rocklein Named C-USA Hitter of the Week

BOCA RATON, Fla. - With seven hits, six RBI and five walks, Florida Atlantic University senior Tyler Rocklein was named the Conference USA Hitter of the Week by the conference office on Sunday.

In the final week of his career, the Bradenton, Fla. native led the Owls to three wins including a doubleheader sweep against No. 30 UAB on Friday, May 16.

Rocklein shined in the second game of the doubleheader, going 4-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. He reached base in six consecutive appearances over the two games with two extra-base hits. His .467 average over the week boosted his overall batting average to above .300. He scored or drove in runs in each of FAU's four games, leading the Owls to three victories against two of the best pitching staffs in Conference USA.

In the first game on Friday, his RBI single in the third gave the Owls a lead over UAB that they would not relinquish.

In game two, he beat out a bunt single for an RBI in the first inning. After drawing a nine-pitch walk and scoring in the sixth, Rocklein hit a two-out RBI single in the seventh to cut into the UAB lead. In the ninth, his double put him in scoring position and he came in to score the tying run to send the game to extra innings. With runners at the corners in the 10th, he hit ripped a walkoff single down the left field line to drive in Stephen Kerr for his third RBI on his fourth hit of the game to drive in Stephen Kerr for the game-winner.

On Saturday, he hit his fourth triple of the season in the third inning to drive in a run. He also had a two-out RBI single up the middle in the eighth inning to cut into the UAB lead. He put himself in scoring position seven times on the week and drew five walks.

Rocklein joins Esteban Puerta (April 7) and CJ Chatham (May 5) to become the third Owl to receive a Hitter of the Week honor in 2014.
