BOCA RATON, Fla. – For the second time this season, and as the fourth such honor awarded to an Owl in 2018, Florida Atlantic University redshirt senior rightfielder David Miranda is Conference USA Hitter of the Week, announced by the baseball league office Monday afternoon.
Aiding the Owls to a 3-1 week, Miranda had three home runs and eight RBI, hitting safely in all four games. Against a very good UCF squad Tuesday, he had a double and triple, three runs scored and two RBI. On the weekend, he reached twice in the opener against Middle Tennessee, then had two home runs against the Blue Raiders Saturday, knocking in four. He finished the set with another home run, in the top of the first, towards the series-clinching win.
On the week, he batted .333 (6-for-18), with an OBP of .400 and slugged 1.000. Five of his six hits went for extra bases, and he struck out just once while handling all 10 chances, including turning a key double play on an assist from rightfield.
Miranda shares Monday’s award with Louisiana Tech outfielder Parker Bates. He previously won the honor outright on April 9, and another in 2017 as well. Earlier this year, fellow Owls Jake Miednik (C-USA Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 26), and Eric Rivera (sharing Co-Hitter honors on March 19) were recognized by the league.
The Owls have only a three-game home set left in the regular season, against WKU from Thursday to Saturday at FAU Baseball Stadium. Get tickets by calling 1-866-FAU-OWLS or logging on to www.fausports.com/tickets/baseball-tickets.html.
