Senior Jake Meiers will start Tuesday's game against UCF

Boca Raton, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University baseball team will play the final home game of the 2013 season by hosting UCF on Tuesday, May 14, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the FAU Baseball Stadium, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus.
The game will mark the final home game for seniors Hugh Adams, Gregg Bennis, Corey Keller, Jake Meiers, Mark Nelson, Nathan Pittman, Mike Spano and Michael Sylvestri. The senior class has recorded 132 victories, including 73 wins in Sun Belt Conference action. The seniors were formally honored by the athletic department and baseball program on May 4. The Owls will be going for the season sweep over UCF after winning 10-2 on April 16 in Orlando.
FAU stands 31-20 and is coming off a three-game road league series sweep against Western Kentucky University from May 10-12. The team outscored the Hilltoppers 29-11 in the series, including scoring 11 runs over the final three innings in a 12-6 comeback victory on Sunday, May 12.
Freshman Brendon Sanger leads the team with 37 runs scored and a .344 batting average. He had four hits and scored four runs in a road win at Western Kentucky on May 11.
Pittman has driven in 32 runs and ranks second on the team with 36 runs scored from the leadoff position in the batting order. The outfielder brings a .320 batting average into the game, and also leads the team with 11 stolen bases.
Junior Levi Meyer had a pair of RBIs in the series finale at WKU. The catcher is hitting .331 with seven doubles and two home runs. Sophomore Mitch Morales rounds out the .300-or-better hitters in the lineup, and has recorded 26 RBI and 29 runs scored.
In the pitching department, the Owls have regained the lead in the SBC with a 3.84 earned run average (ERA). The rotation is led by sophomore Austin Gomber, who has started the opener in each weekend series this season. The left hander ranks among the league leaders with 84 strikeouts, 80 innings and a 3.04 ERA.
Senior closer Hugh Adams leads the SBC with 13 saves and is two saves shy of tying the conference record for career saves. He pitched four innings to earn his first win of the season on May 12 at WKU.
UCF is 28-24 on the season and is 12-9 in Conference USA games. Chris Taladay leads the team's offensive attack with a .363 batting average and 42 runs batted in. Erik Hempe has hit seven home runs with 14 doubles. Jeramy Matos has hit a team-high eight homers.
