BOCA RATON, Fla. - Standout performances over the weekend by third baseman Ricky Santiago and track's top performer Danielle Aromashodu have earned the pair Florida Atlantic University's honor of student-athlete of the week.
Sophomore Ricky Santiago led the baseball team's offensive attack, going 6-for-14 with three runs batted in and three runs scored. He had three hits and a RBI in a 10-2 win over UCF to start the week. Santiago made his only hit count in a come-from-behind victory over Louisiana on Saturday. The third baseman connected on a two-run homerun in the ninth inning to give FAU the one run lead. Santiago is batting .286 with two home runs and 15 RBIs for the season. He has recorded 10 doubles and scored 19 runs.
Florida Atlantic's baseball team will take on the University of Miami in Coral Gables on Wednesday, April 24 before hosting Troy in a three-game series this weekend, April 26-28 with the first game scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
Women's track also competed on Saturday, at the University of Florida, as Danielle Aromashodu held onto her first-place Sun Belt Conference ranking in the 400 meter hurdles. Aromashodu finished the event at UF in fourth-place with a final time of 59.43. Her top ranked time for the conference was set at the University of Miami's Hurricane Alumni Invitational the previous weekend. The junior has been in the lead for the entire outdoor season thus far and now holds first place by more than two seconds over the next best time.
Aromashodu and the rest of Florida Atlantic's track team will travel outside of Florida for the first time this outdoor track season when they compete at the University of Pennsylvania's Penn Relays on April 25-26.
