Jonesboro, AR - Inclement weather in northeast Arkansas has forced the Florida Atlantic University baseball team to wait another day until starting its Sun Belt Conference series at Arkansas State University. The scheduled series opener on Friday, March 22 has been postponed because of an overnight snowfall that made field conditions unplayable at Tomlinson Stadium.
FAU and Arkansas State are now scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday, March 23, starting at noon.
Five inches of snow fell in the Jonesboro, Arkansas area Thursday night. Rain showers were forecast for Friday evening and frigid, winter-like temperatures also played a factor in the decision to postpone the original series opener.
The Owls' Saturday games would be their second doubleheader this season. They swept the University of Cincinnati to open the 2013 season on Saturday, February 16.
FAU has a 13-8 record for the season while being 2-1 in SBC action. Arkansas State is 15-7 overall and 3-0 in league play.
Live audio and statistics of each game will be available at www.fausports.com.
Single-game tickets for remaining home games are available by contacting the FAU Ticket Office at 1-866-FAU-OWLS.
