Boca Raton, FL - Florida Atlantic University junior right hander Jeremy Strawn has earned the Sun Belt Conference's Pitcher of the Week Award after tossing eight scoreless innings in a victory over the University of Alabama.
Strawn, from Bradenton, Florida, struck out a career-high six batters and allowed just four singles in leading the Owls to a 3-0 victory over the Crimson Tide on Sunday, February 24. He was very efficient in his second starting assignment of this spring, throwing 64 strikes in 87 pitches thrown and allowing just one opposing base runner to reach second base - in the eighth inning. He retired the leadoff batter in seven of the eight innings.
Strawn stands 1-0 on the young season, with a 1.29 earned run average. He has posted 10 strikeouts and only one walk in 14 innings on the mound.
FAU, 4-3 for the season, is scheduled to host Florida Gulf Coast University, 5-1 after a three-game weekend sweep of the University of Florida, on Tuesday, February 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the FAU Baseball Stadium. The Eagles are ranked No. 25 in Collegiate Baseball's Top 30 and were named among the teams to watch in the latest edition of the Perfect Game poll.
