BOCA RATON, Fla. - After winning two out of three in its opening series against Notre Dame, the Florida Atlantic University baseball team will travel to Coral Gables to take on No. 11 Miami on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m.
The Owls (2-1) posted 31 runs on the Irish in the three-game series while the FAU pitching staff struck out 35 Notre Dame batters.
Senior Levi Meyer was named the Conference USA Player of the Week by College Sports Madness for his outstanding play. The catcher went 8-for-11 with 7 RBI, two walks, a double and his first career triple. Meyer owns an on-base percentage of .786 after reaching safely in six of his last seven plate appearances.
Sophomore Brandon Rhodes will get the start on the mound for FAU. The Lake Worth native earned the victory in last year's second meeting with the Hurricanes, dealing 1.2 innings of perfect pitching.
Javi Salas is the starting pitcher for Miami, making his first appearance of 2014. The Hurricanes hold a 53-11 advantage all-time against FAU and are 35-7 against the Owls in Coral Gables.
