Baseball Team, Individuals Praised by Baseball America
Feb. 9, 2018

(The third of three scheduled FAU baseball positional preview for today, pitchers, has been pushed back to Monday with some battles too close to call. Check back then for all the details on the Owls’ staff.)

BOCA RATON, Fla. – As part of the publication’s annual conference-by-conference preview, Baseball America predicted the Florida Atlantic University baseball team to make the NCAA Regionals, and multiple Owls made the “best of” in various league rankings.

FAU, along with Southern Miss, were tabbed as Conference USA's postseason picks. About the Owls, Baseball America says “FAU has what it takes to get back to regionals this season, as it returns junior shortstop Tyler Frank, its leading hitter, senior outfielder David Miranda, its leading power threat and a deep pitching staff led by (Jake) Miednik,” and “FAU has all the pieces to make this another strong spring in head coach John McCormack's 10th season.”

Individually, Miednik was named by BA as its preseason C-USA Pitcher of the Year, and was also listed in the “Best Tools” category for having the league’s Best Breaking Ball. He came in at No. 8 among the top 10 prospects for the upcoming 2018 draft.

Frank was chosen as the league’s No. 1 overall 2018 draft prospect, as well as having two “Best Tools,” as C-USA’s Best Pure Hitter and Best Defensive Infielder. As has become the norm this offseason, Frank too was selected for the fifth time as preseason All-American this week, this time to the Third Team by College Sports Madness.

Other Owls lauded Thursday by BA were 2018 draft prospects Kyle Marman (No. 5) and Cody Wilson (No. 6), 2019 draft prospects Pedro Pages (No. 3), Mike Ruff (No. 8) and Nick Prather (No. 10), and Wilson as the league’s No. 5 newcomer. The Owls have just one more week before 2018’s first pitch, 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16 against George Washington. Tickets for that game at FAU Baseball Stadium, and all home games this season, can be purchased at 1-866-FAU-OWLS.
