BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University baseball team has been forecasted to finish third by Conference USA member coaches, while three Owls were chosen to the league’s Preseason All-Conference Team, as announced by C-USA on Wednesday.
The Owls trail just Southern Miss and Rice in the team vote, with the Golden Eagles receiving 11 first-place votes, and Rice the other. Rounding out the top five are Old Dominion and FIU.
Individually, shortstop Tyler Frank, outfielder David Miranda and starting pitcher Jake Miednik were each voted to the All-Conference squad. The 14-member team features three players each from the three top teams in the poll, with FAU, Rice and Southern Miss tying for having the most players honored.
“It is always nice to get recognized by your peers in these preseason polls, but they are for fun and don’t have any bearing on what happens during the year,” said Head Coach John McCormack. “Congrats to Jake, Tyler, and David on being named First Team, that is quite an honor. It is a testament to all the hard work they have put in.”
In addition to the First Team conference nod, Frank has also received yet another national honor, as DIBaseball.com selected him as Third Team Preseason All-American. That comes on the heels of a Third Team recognition two weeks ago by Perfect Game/Rawlings, while in mid-December, Collegiate Baseball named him to their Second Team.
The Owls’ first day of practice is scheduled for this Friday. Three weeks following that is 2018 Opening Night, hosting George Washington at FAU Baseball Stadium on Friday, Feb. 16.
