Florida Atlantic University won its first Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament with a 21-2 victory over Troy University. FAU (45-15) did not suffer a loss in the tournament and receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Rusty Brown earned Tournament MVP honors after hitting .526 with three home runs and 13 RBI in four games.
The Trojans (36-22) left the bases loaded in the first inning as six batters were sent to the plate. Mann had a career-high six innings of work and seven strikeouts as he limited Troy to two hits and held them scoreless through six.
Meanwhile, the FAU bats produced 27 hits in the game, which broke the A-Sun Tournament record for hits and tied the record for most runs by a single team.
Jeff Fiorentino finished the day 4-for-7 at the plate, while Derek Hutton and Brown finished the game with five and six RBI, respectively. Brown's RBI production was a career-high for the senior from North Fort Myers, FL.
Each FAU starter finished the contest with at least two hits and Fiorentino and Hutton crossed the plate four times.
The NCAA Regional brackets will be announced on Monday, May 31 on ESPN2 at noon.
It is the 11th straight time that FAU has defeated the Trojans. Florida Atlantic has swept the last three conference series against Troy.
