Monroe, La. - The Florida Atlantic University baseball team dropped a 9-6 decision to top-seeded Troy University in the second game of Pool A play in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament at Warhawk Field in Monroe, La.

The loss dropped the Owls to 32-24 on the season. The team will conclude tournament action on Saturday, May 29, against the University of Arkansas-Little Rock, beginning at noon. Troy's record improves to 41-17.

The Trojans broke a 6-6 tie in the eighth inning when T.J. Rivera's double brought home Adam Bryant, who led off the frame with a triple. Troy added two insurance runs in the ninth inning as Bryant doubled off the left field wall to score Tyler Hannah. Then, Boone Shear would drive in Bryant with a double to left-center field, giving Troy a decisive 9-6 lead.

After trailing 6-1, Florida Atlantic squared the game with a five-run fifth inning. Senior shortstop Nick DelGuidice drew a bases-loaded walk before senior designated hitter Joey Burkhalter connected on a grand slam home run to tie the game. The blast was his first blast this season and the second grand slam of his career.

FAU opened with a 1-0 lead in the second inning when junior catcher Mike Albaladejo had a two-out RBI single that scored Burkhalter.

Troy's Bryant gave the Trojans the lead with a two-run home run over the left field fence in the fourth inning. Hannah connected on a grand slam homer one inning later to build the five-run lead.

Nathan Hill improved to 5-2 on the season for Troy after tossing 2.2 scoreless innings in relief. The left hander struck out two batters and allowed two hits. FAU starting pitcher Paul Davis received a no-decision after allowing six runs and four hits in seven innings. Junior reliever Ahmed Garcia suffered the loss to drop to 1-2 on the season.



Burkhalter paced the Owls' eight-hit offensive attack, scoring two runs and having four RBIs. Senior third baseman Sean Bukovich had two hits, while senior outfielder Andy Mee, senior outfielder Colby Gratton, senior first baseman Dan Scheffler joined Albaladejo, Church and Burkhalter collected one hit each.

Troy's Bryant went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Hannah and Rivera added two hits each.
