May 27, 2004
For the first time in an Atlantic Sun Tournament, Florida Atlantic University won the first two-games in the tournament as FAU defeated Stetson University 15-1 on the second day of action in DeLand, FL. FAU ousted the Hatters with 15 hits off of five Stetson pitchers and saw Chris Saxton throw a complete game.
FAU (43-15) jumped on Chris Ingoglia (7-3) for three runs in the first 1.1 innings before the freshman from Boynton Beach, FL exited the game. Ingoglia gave up three runs on four hits. Cameron Abel entered to close out the second and retired the side in the third but gave up four runs in the fourth inning.
The Hatters (36-22) continued to run pitchers in the game as FAU freshman Robbie Widlansky hit his third home run in the last five games to record a game-high three RBI.
Jeff Fiorentino picked up his conference leading 16th home run of the season in the top of the ninth.
Stetson scored its only run of the contest in the second inning off of Chris Saxton as the senior gave up a leadoff double to catcher, Chris Westervelt. Westervelt moved over to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a Bryan Zenchyk ground out. Saxton (4-1) threw the first complete game of his career and only allowed one run on five hits and struck out two. The Lake Worth, FL native only faced four over the minimum as he picked up his second win over the Hatters this season.
FAU will face no. 1 seed UCF at 11 am on Friday as the only two undefeated teams remaining.
