Bowling Green, KY - The Florida Atlantic University baseball team dropped its second straight extra-inning contest in the Sun Belt Conference tournament, falling 5-4 in 10 innings to the University of South Alabama on Friday night at the Bowling Green Ballpark in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Sophomore outfielder Geoff Jimenez led the Owls' 10-hit offensive attack with three hits. Junior third baseman Kyle Newton and junior outfielder Corey Keller also recorded multiple-hit efforts with two hits each.

Keller's sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth inning scored Newton to cut an early deficit to 2-1. Then, junior outfielder Nathan Pittman would tie the game with his fourth home run of the season.

The next inning, Newton's double to center field plated senior outfielder Alex Hudak to give FAU a 3-2 advantage. Sophomore shortstop Mitch Morales would score on a bases-loaded ground ball from Pittman to put the team ahead 4-2 in the fifth inning.

South Alabama (23-34) would tie the game on a two-run single in the seventh inning by Nick Zaharion. Later, he would end the game with a walk-off RBI single to left field in the bottom of the 10th inning that scored Nolan Earley.

The game ends the collegiate careers of seniors Mike Albaladejo, Ahmed Garcia, Ryan Garton, Alex Hudak and Mike Tomasi.

FAU concludes the 2012 season with a 32-22 record. The team captured the Sun Belt Conference regular-season championship with a 19-8 league record. The title was the second in the last three years for the Owls.
