LAFAYETTE, La. - Tyler Rocklein's two-run homerun was the big hit in the Florida Atlantic University baseball team's 3-1 win over Troy on Friday. Play resumed in the top of the ninth with the score tied at one, which is the action stood when the game was suspended on Thursday night.
After a strikeout ended the top of the ninth, Hugh Adams came on to pitch for the Owls (37-20). He gave up a two-out single, but then caught the runner trying to steal second to send the game to extras.
In the top of the 10th, Mark Nelson singled to right field to bring Rocklein to the plate. Rocklein hit a shot off the top of the scoreboard to put FAU ahead. Brandon Sanger followed with a triple, but was ultimately left stranded.
The Trojans (40-17) had a couple of hard hit balls off of Adams in the bottom of the inning, but only one dropped safely and a strikeout ended the game. Adams pitched two innings to pick up the win.
The Owls will play at 10 a.m. eastern on Saturday against the winner of Friday night's Troy-Arkansas State game. Live stats of Saturday's game will be available at www.fausports.com.
