BOCA RATON, FL – The Florida Atlantic University baseball team took one step closer to a 2010 regular season Sun Belt title by defeating FIU in walk-off fashion 6-5 on Friday night at the FAU Baseball Stadium.
With the score tied at 5-5 heading into the final frame, Colby Gratton skied a 2-0 fastball over the wall in left to send the FAU fans and players into a frenzy.
The Panthers (31-21, 17-12) got off to a good start when Yoandy Barroso doubled home Jeremy Patton to give FIU a 1-0 lead.
The Owls (32-20, 20-9) exploded in the fourth and got right back in the game with four runs of their own. Mike Albaladejo sparked things with a bloop single. Five hits later, FAU had a 4-1 lead. Eddie Cassidy, Nick DelGuidice and Sean Bukovich each had RBI hits in the inning.
FAU tacked on another run the fifth when Albaladejo alertly stole third and scored on a sac fly by Eddie Cassidy to give the Owls a 5-1 lead.
