Bowling Green, Ky. - The Florida Atlantic University baseball team matched its season high for runs scored in Sun Belt Conference games in a 10-3 win over Western Kentucky University on Saturday, May 11 at Nick Denes Field. The victory clinched the weekend series and assured the team of its 15th consecutive season with 30 or more wins.
The Owls (30-20, 15-11 SBC) scored runs over four consecutive innings to take a commanding 10-1 lead after the sixth frame. Senior Corey Keller drove in a pair of runs with a double to the left-center field gap in the fourth, and sophomore Ricky Santiago drove home another run to cap the inning.
FAU added three more runs in the fifth inning and two runs in the sixth inning.
Freshman Brendon Sanger paced the offensive attack, going 4-for-5 with four runs scored. The four hits matched his career high. Santiago added two hits and had two runs batted in, while junior Tyler Rocklein also had two hits to round out the multiple-hit efforts.
Junior pitcher Jeremy Strawn improved to 4-2 on the season, allowing one unearned run over six innings. The right hander scattered six hits and had three strikeouts. Sophomore Bo Logan and senior Gregg Bennis pitched the final three innings to secure the victory.
WKU (24-26, 13-13 SBC) was led by Devin Kelly's 4-for-4 day with a run batted in.
