Boca Raton, FL - The Florida Atlantic University baseball team could not complete its third Sun Belt Conference series sweep, dropping a 6-1 decision to Western Kentucky University on Sunday at the FAU Baseball Stadium in Boca Raton.

The Owls fall to 28-18 on the season and still lead the league with a 16-6 conference record. The team returns to diamond on Tuesday, May 8, at 6:30 p.m. against Florida Gulf Coast University.

WKU (20-28, 10-14 Sun Belt) took an early lead with a three-run third inning. Devin Kelly's two-run single capped the scoring frame. The Hilltoppers would get another run in the fourth inning to build a 4-0 advantage.

FAU cut into the deficit in the fifth inning on sophomore infielder Robert Buckley's run-scoring single plated sophomore outfielder Geoff Jimenez.

The Hilltoppers answered with a run in the sixth and seventh innings to secure the victory.

Jimenez paced the offensive attack with two hits and a run scored. Junior outfielder Corey Keller, junior third baseman Kyle Newton and Buckley also chipped in one base hit for the host.

WKU's Justin Hageman scattered five hits and one run in 7.2 innings to improve to 3-5 on the mound.

Offensively, Scott Wilcox led the 11-hit Hilltopper offensive attack with three hits. Kelly drove in two runs and had two hits.
