Boca Raton, FL - The Florida Atlantic University baseball team could not complete its third Sun Belt Conference series sweep, dropping a 6-1 decision to Western Kentucky University on Sunday at the FAU Baseball Stadium in Boca Raton.
The Owls fall to 28-18 on the season and still lead the league with a 16-6 conference record. The team returns to diamond on Tuesday, May 8, at 6:30 p.m. against Florida Gulf Coast University.
WKU (20-28, 10-14 Sun Belt) took an early lead with a three-run third inning. Devin Kelly's two-run single capped the scoring frame. The Hilltoppers would get another run in the fourth inning to build a 4-0 advantage.
The Hilltoppers answered with a run in the sixth and seventh innings to secure the victory.
WKU's Justin Hageman scattered five hits and one run in 7.2 innings to improve to 3-5 on the mound.
Offensively, Scott Wilcox led the 11-hit Hilltopper offensive attack with three hits. Kelly drove in two runs and had two hits.
