NORFOLK, Va. - Following a pair of wins by the Florida Atlantic University baseball team, Old Dominion stormed back to win the third game of the series 12-1 in seven innings on Sunday.
The Monarchs (28-20, 14-13 C-USA) posted seven runs over the first two innings on six hits and three walks to take an insurmountable lead over the Owls (24-23, 12-15 C-USA).
Freshman CJ Chatham had his fourth extra-base hit of the series in the second inning with a double down the left-field line, but was left stranded. Esteban Puerta and Mitch Morales each singled to lead off the third inning, and Puerta advanced to third, but the Owls were unable to produce runs.
ODU tacked on five more runs over the next three innings to take the 12-0 lead.
Kevin Abraham was hit by a pitch to lead off the top of the seventh and moved to second on a groundout. Freshman Reid Neal then knocked a pinch-hit double to left center to plate Abraham, ending the shutout.
The Monarchs took the victory in seven innings as the Owls were mercy-ruled for the second time this season.
Drew Jackson dealt 2.1 innings, allowing eight earned runs on seven hits and three walks while recording three strikeouts. ODU's Victor Diaz earned the win, striking out seven and giving up seven hits in his seven innings on the hill.
