NORFOLK, Va. - After falling behind 2-0 early, the Florida Atlantic University baseball team posted seven runs on seven hits in the fifth inning to come back to win game two 8-7 and win the series at Old Dominion on Saturday.
The Owls (24-22, 12-14 C-USA) will go for the sweep on Sunday with a first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
Senior Tyler Rocklein and Chatham hit back-to-back doubles to lead off the fifth, cutting the ODU lead to 2-1. After a walk by Puerta, Mitch Morales hit a single through the right side to plate Chatham to tie the game. Jose Bonilla Traverso singled up the middle to load the bases with one out. Stephen Kerr and Ricky Santiago each hit singles to drive in three runs, giving the Owls a 5-2 lead. Following an RBI groundout by Brendon Sanger, Rocklein picked up his second hit of the inning to drive in Santiago, putting FAU on top 7-2.
Old Dominion (27-20, 13-13 C-USA) would come back to score three in the fifth on just one hit and two more in the seventh on three hits to knot things up at 7-7.
Chatham led off the eighth with a single up the middle and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Levi Meyer. Puerta then drove in Chatham on a single through the left side to plate the game-winning run.
Senior Kevin Alexander struck out the side in the eighth en route to his fifth save of the season. Bo Logan earned the win, dealing three innings of work.
The Owls followed up their 14-hit outing on Friday with 13 more on Saturday. FAU had three doubles in the game, tallying eight extra-base hits in the two games.
