Rockhill, SC -
Tim Mascia scored Florida Atlantic University's lone run with his fifth homerun of the season in FAU's 3-1 loss to Winthrop University, in the second game of a scheduled double header, Saturday evening in Rockhill, SC.
FAU out hit the Eagles 8-6 in the loss and fell to 33-12 overall. Evan Brannon was FAU's first base runner with a single in the first. Mike McBryde followed in the third with a bunt single and a stolen second.
Florida Atlantic would not strike again until the fourth when Mascia hit his one out homer to right field. Rusty Brown and Alex Fonseca would follow Mascia's homer with singles before the inning ended on a fielder's choice and a long out to right. FAU would manage just three hits over the next five innings including a double by catcher Robbie Orton, but were held scoreless.
Chris Saxton drew his second start of the 2004 season and had easy sailing through the first three innings, but once again FAU fell victim to one bad inning witnessing all three Eagle runs in the fourth and they did so with three hits, including a double, two sacrifices and an FAU error.
Saxton, who fell to 2-1 on the season, was relieved by Mark Culp. Culp worked two hitless innings and gave way to Brandon Kloess, who pitched two hitless innings, faced the minimum and retired two via the strikeout.
Offensively, Rusty Brown was the only FAU player to have multiple hits and was 2-for-4 on the game.
