Troy, AL - The Florida Atlantic University baseball team dropped its first Sun Belt Conference series of the season, falling 9-0 in Sunday's finale to Troy University at Riddle-Pace Field in Troy, Alabama.
The Owls fall to 26-17 on the season and remain in first place in the league with a 14-5 conference record. FAU returns to the diamond on Friday, May 4, at 6:30 p.m. against Western Kentucky University.
Troy (20-24, 8-13 Sun Belt) broke a scoreless game in the fourth inning on Boone Shear's run-scoring single to score Logan Pierce.
The game would remain tight until the host Trojans scored five runs in the seventh inning and three more runs in the eighth inning to secure the win.
Freshman left hander Austin Gomber suffered the loss, dropping to 3-3 on the season. He allowed three earned runs with five strikeouts in 6.1 innings.
Troy's Shear and Tyler Vaughn had two hits apiece as part of a nine-hit attack. Ryan Brady picked up the win with six scoreless innings and four strikeouts.
