BOCA RATON, Fla. - East Carolina got a solid outing by its starting pitcher to down the Florida Atlantic University baseball team 2-1 on Sunday.
The Owls (22-21, 10-14 C-USA) managed just one hit through the first seven innings against David Lucroy. The 2013 Freshman All-American struck out 11 FAU batters and walked five to earn the victory.
The Pirates (27-18, 13-8 C-USA) first struck in the third inning on a single, a walk and a two-out RBI single by Zach Houchins to take the early lead.
FAU responded in the fourth when Tyler Rocklein drew his first of three walks on the day and stole second base. After advancing to third on a flyout, Rocklein scored on a CJ Chatham two-out, RBI single through the left side.
The tie didn't last long as good base-running by the Pirated allowed them to score the game-winning run. Eric Tyler was hit by a pitch and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. After a single put runners at the corners, a passed ball allowed Tyler to score the go-ahead run.
Stephen Kerr picked up FAU's second hit of the game in the eighth and was left stranded on third after a pair of infield groundouts.
FAU hosts FGCU on Tuesday, April 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the FAU Baseball Stadium. For ticket information, visit FAUSports.com or call 1-866-FAU-OWLS.
