MIAMI, Fla. - Brendon Sanger followed up his three-run home run in Saturday's game with a two-run homer in the first inning on Sunday as the Florida Atlantic University baseball team beat FIU 6-1.
The Owls (21-18, 9-12 C-USA) win the series over FIU (27-12, 11-10 C-USA) after taking Saturday's game 13-5.
After Sanger's homer in the first, FAU batted through the lineup in the second inning. CJ Chatham led off the frame with a single. Jose Bonilla Traverso then hit a bunt single to first base to put runners at the corners. Stephen Kerr, Ricky Santiago and Sanger recorded three consecutive RBI to give FAU a 5-0 edge.
Chatham and Kevin Abraham each singled in the third to setup another RBI single by Kerr, ending FAU's scoring at six runs.
Drew Jackson dealt a two-hitter with seven strikeouts through the first six innings before FIU's Josh Anderson sent a 3-2 pitch over the left field wall in the seventh to end the shutout.
Jackson retired 13 out of a stretch of 14 batters from the second to the sixth innings, earning his team-high fifth win of the season.
Eight different Owls picked up hits with Kerr, Sanger, Tyler Rocklein, Chatham and Abraham each earning two hits.
