FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University baseball team dropped a midweek bout 1-0 at Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday, snapping a streak of seven consecutive FAU wins against in-state opponents.
The FAU pitching staff held the Eagles (22-12) to just one hit through the first six innings before FGCU scored the lone run of the game in the seventh. A double, wild pitch and a sacrifice fly gave the Eagles the 1-0 lead and, eventually, the win.
Reily Monkman was tagged with the loss after pitching in relief of Brandon Rhodes. Monkman allowed the only run on two hits in his one inning of work. Rhodes struck out four and allowed just one hit through the first four innings of the game.
FGCU's Garrett Anderson earned the win, striking out two in his one inning. Brady Anderson started the game for the Eagles, striking out nine FAU batters in five innings on the hill.
