Monroe, LA - The No. 25-ranked Florida Atlantic University baseball team moved into sole possession of first place in the Sun Belt Conference with an 8-6 win over the University of Louisiana at Monroe on Friday, April 5 at Warhawk Field. The Owls have won eight straight games.

FAU (21-9, 8-2 SBC) put together five straight hits to score four runs in the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie. Senior outfielder Nathan Pittman had a double with the bases loaded to score senior catcher Mike Spano and sophomore shortstop Mitch Morales. Junior designated hitter Levi Meyer gave the visitors a 6-3 lead with a RBI single to bring home junior infielder Robert Buckley. After a ULM pitching change, senior first baseman Mark Nelson scored Pittman on a ground out.

ULM (11-19, 1-9 SBC) countered with two runs in the seventh to cut the deficit to 7-5. However, the Owls got an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning when sophomore third baseman Ricky Santiago hit a run-scoring double down the left field line.

Things got more interesting in the bottom of the ninth when the Warhawks scored a run on Kodie Tidwell's single to score Dalton Herrington. ULM had a game-tying run in scoring position with no outs, but FAU senior closer Hugh Adams struck out Jeff Fuller and Chris Dudley in back-to-back pressure-packed situations. Then, Judd Edwards grounded out to end the game.

FAU built a 3-0 lead after a two-out, two-run single by Morales in the top of the fourth inning and a RBI single by Meyer in the fifth. ULM scored three runs in the fifth -- all coming with two outs.

Sophomore left hander Austin Gomber recorded nine strikeouts and scattered six hits across seven innings. He improved to 4-1 on the season. Senior reliever Michael Sylvestri tossed a scoreless eighth inning and Adams tallied his 10th save of the season.

Offensively, eight of FAU's nine players recorded a hit and four players had two hits apiece in the victory. Morales went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and a run scored. Pittman also drove in a pair and scored two runs while going 2-for-4 at the plate. Meyer and Santiago also had two hits for the visitors in the victory.

ULM's Fuller tallied three of the team's eight hits and drove in three runs. Herrington and Tidwell each had two hits. Starting pitcher Cale Wine fell to 3-5 on the season, allowing seven runs in five innings on the mound.
