Junior outfielder Corey Keller hit his fourth home run of the season as part of a three-hit game in Tuesday's loss to UCF
March 27, 2012
Boca Raton, FL - A season-high four-hit performance by senior infielder Mike Albaladejo couldn't help the Florida Atlantic University baseball team get past No. 21-ranked UCF 11-3 in mid-week, non-conference action at the FAU Baseball Stadium on Tuesday in Boca Raton. The loss drops the Owls to 16-10 on the season.
Albaladejo and junior outfielder Corey Keller's three hits combined for seven of FAU's 11 hits on the evening. And, Keller drove in two of the team's three runs.
But those performances were overshadowed by UCF senior right fielder Alex Friedrich, who had three hits and pushed across four runs on the night for the Knights, which improved to 20-6 on the season.
Friedrich's first hit, a two-out triple to center field, gave the visitors a 2-0 first-inning lead. The advantage would grow to 3-1 in the third inning with his run-scoring double to right field, and his fourth RBI of the night came on a single in the eighth inning. All three of his hits scored Darnell Sweeney. Chris Taladay also scored on Friedrich's first-inning triple.
Keller would cut UCF's lead to 2-1 on a lead-off home run to right field in the second inning. The blast was his fourth of the season.
UCF's lead would grow to 7-1 until Keller struck again with a RBI single in the fifth inning that brought home Albaladejo.
FAU would cut the deficit to 7-3 in the sixth inning on a single by Albaladejo that scored sophomore outfielder Geoff Jimenez. The next inning, the Owls had runners at second and third bases, but junior outfielder Dylan Seigel flew out to left field to end the inning.
UCF put the game away with a four-run eighth inning.
FAU returns to the diamond on Friday, March 30, at 6:30 p.m. to begin a home three-game Sun Belt Conference series against the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. The Owls stand in first place in the conference with a 5-1 league record.
