Florida Atlantic University (22-6, 6-0 A-Sun) swept its second conference series of the season when they defeated Samford University (14-12, 4-6 A-Sun) in a doubleheader on Saturday 3-2, 6-2. The three wins extend FAU's winning streak to 15

In game one, FAU spotted the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead after the first. A lead off single and a double were followed by a Grant Caldwell single to left field to score two.

A two-run home run by Robert Orton (Wellington, FL) in the third tied the game and relieved a little pressure from starter Danny Core. A Rusty Brown homer in the fourth proved to be the game winning run in the seven inning contest

Core (3-2) was relieved by Tim McNab after he threw six innings and struck out four. The only two runs he gave up in the game were in the first.

Samford threatened in the bottom of the seventh after FAU's closer, McNab entered the game. After a lead off single by Sae Evans, he advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Eli Iorg then reached on a error, which made it first and third with one out. Iorg then made a costly base running error as he was thrown out by Tim McNab at second with Evans remaining at third with two outs. McNab then struck out the final batter of the game to give FAU its first win of the day.

FAU scored first in game two but fell behind in the second after Samford scored two. A lead off single, a double and a sacrifice fly by Kip Snowden tied the game. The next batter Ehren Wasserman singled up the middle to score Robert Evans from third and go up by one.

Four unearned runs in the third, capped off by a three-run Jeff Fiorentino homer put the Blue Wave up 5-2. An L.J. Biernbaum solo home run finished the scoring in the fifth.

Travis NeSmith started for FAU and worked four innings, struck out one and gave up two earned runs. He received the win and remains perfect on the season with a 4-0 record.

FAU finished the series with five home runs.

The Blue Wave will have a four game home stand this week. Harvard will visit on Wednesday before A-Sun play resumes on Friday and Saturday with Jacksonville State University.
