Florida Atlantic University (20-6, 4-0 A-Sun) stays perfect in Atlantic Sun Conference play after defeating Samford University (14-10, 5-5 A-Sun) in the first game of a three-game series 9-4.
FAU seemed to be affected by the 35 degree weather as they fell behind 3-0 through six innings. Chris Pillsbury (5-0) gave up a run to the Bulldogs in the third, fourth and fifth. Pillsbury struck out seven in his seven innings of work.
The Blue Wave warmed up with a seven-run seventh inning. FAU accumulated five base hits but managed to draw the inning out after an error led to four unearned runs.
Two more runs were posted in the ninth when Matt Pali hit his third home run in two days to post two RBI.
Frank Allen Yielding took the loss for Samford and falls to 4-2.
The series will continue with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 pm.
