Four home runs, one of those an L.J. Biernbaum grand slam, added to twelve other hits allowed Florida Atlantic University (19-6) to defeat Rider University (3-7) Wednesday night at FAU Stadium 17-3.
FAU posted runs in five innings and tallied a total of 17 hits while FAU starter Matt O'Brien held the Broncs to four hits in five innings, allowed one earned run and struck out six. O'Brien improves to 3-1. Chris Wailand, James Callahan, Nelson Lopez, and Jim Cooney all saw one inning of action out of the pen for Florida Atlantic and gave up two hits total.
All of Riders runs came in the fifth inning after an error put the lead off man Rich Brooks on third. He then proceeded to score the first fun of the game for the Broncs on a passed ball. A walk and a single put the second run on the board before a ground out by Dante Paolillo allowed the third run to cross the plate.
Florida Atlantic's offense was led by Matt Pali who went 5-for-6 on the night with two home runs. The second game was the second of the season that Pali has posted two homers in a game.
Joe Berghoff earned the start for Rider and worked 2 2/3 innings giving up two earned runs. He falls to 1-1 .
FAU tries to keep their twelve game winning streak alive this weekend. The team will travel to
Samford for a three-game Atlantic Sun Conference series.
