Mike Cox connected for two solo home runs to lead Florida Atlantic University (16-6) with two RBI in an 8-4 win over Kansas State University (9-6). The win increases FAU's winning streak to nine.
Cox's homer in the second put FAU on the board first and then FAU added to the lead in the fourth with three more runs. Mike Valdes started things off with a single. The next two batters, Jeff Fiorentino and Shaen O'Connor both singled to center. O'Connor's hit allowed Valdes to score. O'Connor finished 4-for-4 on the night. The other two runs in the inning crossed the plate on a wild pitch and a passed ball.
Kansas State would post its first run in the fifth inning when starting pitcher, Danny Core gave up a lead off single followed by a walk. Jeremy Rogers then put down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners to second and third with one out. Core then got Osmar Castillo to ground out to first for the second out but Castillo recorded an RBI on the play. The next batter would ground out to second to end the threat.
Danny Core worked the necessary five innings to get the win and move to 2-2 this season. He struck out four and gave up one earned run.
Ross Hawly took the loss for Kansas State after giving up four earned runs. He would leave the game after being hit by a Shaen O'Connor line drive.
FAU will play Cornell at 1 pm on Sunday at FAU Stadium.
