For the second night in a row, Florida Atlantic University fell behind early to take the lead back in the following inning as they defeated Monmouth University 10-3. FAU improves to 14-6 and brings their current win streak to seven. The Hawks fall to 2-5.
Matt O'Brien (2-1) got his third start of the season for FAU as he worked five innings to receive his second win of the season. But not before falling behind in the first after giving up a solo home run to Lance Koening. In his remaining four innings of work, the sophomore from Royal Palm Beach, Florida only gave up two hits while striking out six.
After Monmouth took the lead in the first FAU reclaimed it with a three-run second. A lead off single by Mike Valdes was followed by a walk and three singles to give Florida Atlantic a 3-1 advantage.
Monmouth would score twice in the seventh after a lead off single by pinch hitter, Chris Ciminiello. Ciminiello would move to second on a walk and third on a base hit before Chuck Gookins posted two RBI with a single up the middle.
Andrew Palmieri worked 3 1/3 innings for the Hawks and gave up eight earned runs. Four other pitchers saw action out of the pen for MU.
FAU will play Miami (OH) on Friday at 7 pm, continuing their home stand.
