Final Stats

Despite posting 16 hits, Florida Atlantic University dropped a 12-11 game to Western Kentucky University Saturday afternoon in Bowling Green, KY. The Owls went ahead 11-9 in the top of the ninth before the Hilltoppers roared back with three runs in the bottom of the frame to even the series at one.

After falling behind early, FAU (14-4, 1-1 SBC) rallied for five runs in the final three frames. Justin Martin put the Owls ahead in the top of the ninth with a two out, two-run double before the Hilltoppers (6-7, 1-1 SBC) came back in the bottom of the ninth. An RBI fielder's choice by Casey Hamilton sealed the win for WKU as he grounded to the shortstop with the bases loaded and one out.

Chris Salberg suffered the loss after he allowed three runs on no hits in 1 2/3 innings. Colby Beach earned the win as he worked the final three innings for Western Kentucky andd allowed five runs on five hits and struck out six.

Robbie Widlansky led the FAU offense with three RBI on a 3-for-5 performance at the plate. Mike McKenna and Martin also finished with three RBI. McKenna's two-run homer in the first gave FAU the early lead.

The rubber match of the series will take place on Sunday at 1 p.m. et.
