Senior catcher Mike Spano drove in FAU's lone run and threw out two base runners against Toledo on Saturday

BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University baseball team dropped a 6-1 game to the University of Toledo on Saturday, March 9.
Toledo (4-8) scored via small ball in the top of the first. But FAU responded with hot bats in the bottom of the first. FAU's (9-5) Geoff Jimenez began the rally with a double to left center field. Mark Nelson moved Jimenez to third base with a base hit. Nelson hustled the hit to second base. With two outs and the bases loaded, catcher Mike Spano hit an RBI single to plate Jimenez, FAU's lone run of the game.
Toledo would hold FAU to just five hits in the contest. Spano was instrumental in the Owls defense and holding runners. The Naples native threw out two-of-three base stealers and also picked off another Toledo base runner.
Jake Meiers started on the mound for FAU and took the loss, falling to 1-2 on the year. Meiers allowed four runs, all earned. He was relieved by Michael Sylvestri who struck out five batters in four inning. He allowed one run. Andrew Archer and Bo Logan pitched the final inning.
The two teams conclude the series on Sunday, March 10 at 1 p.m.
