Baseball has third 20 plus run game in 27-9 win

What started as a nine inning game was called after seven innings as Florida Atlantic University (8-6) defeated LaSalle University (2-4) 27-9. The game was a record setting contest as Rusty Brown tied a school record for doubles in a game with three. As a team, FAU collected a school record seven doubles in the victory.

For the third time this season, FAU has scored over 20 runs in a game. The runs came off of 18 hits, seven doubles and five home runs. Jeff Fiorentino, Hollywood, FL, highlighted the night with a pinch-hit grand slam home run in the fifth. With a two-for-two performance, Fiorentino raises his batting average to .324 for the season. Rusty Brown also had a perfect night as he went three-for-three. All of his hits were doubles to set the school record.

Greg Eubanks, Wellington, FL, got the win for Florida Atlantic after coming out of the pen to replace starter Nelson Lopez and Brad Ingwell. Eubanks (3-0) pitched two innings and struck out one.

Jim Fuchs took the loss for the Explorers after only pitching 2/3 innings and giving up eight runs.

The two teams will meet again on Wednesday at 7 pm.
