BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's baseball team captured the Saturday double header with a 9-1 win in the first game and a 6-2 victory in the second game.
FAU scored in the bottom of the second when first baseman Mark Nelson lead-off the inning with a single to left. Nelson moved to second on a sacrifice and scored on double down the right line by Ricky Santiago, who started at second base. Santiago made the best of his start with a 2-for-3 - three RBI plate performance.
Kevin Alexander drew his first start of the season and moved through the first three scoreless innings with relative ease. Princeton scored in the fourth via a double to left by Sam Mulroy, who moved the third on a sac fly and scored on a single by Steve Harrington. Alexander did not allow another run until the sixth.
The big inning for the Owls came in the fifth. Robert Buckly, who was 3-for-4, got the team started with a one-out single to left. With runners on first and second, Corey Keller hit a single to third loading the bases. A ground out scored one run. Third baseman Kyle Newton followed with a two-out -- two-RBI single down the left field line. Santiago then doubled, his second of the day, to score two. In all, FAU scored five in the bottom of the fifth to take a 6-1 lead.
The Owls showed more power in game two with three doubles, Santiago's two and catcher Mike Albaladejo added another.
Kevin Link took the loss for Princeton which moved to 1-2 on the year. FAU stands at 8-3 on the season.
The two teams are scheduled to play game four of the four-game series 1 p.m. Sunday.
