In his first start for Florida Atlantic University, Mike McKenna came up with an RBI as FAU fell to Michigan University 4-1 on Monday night. FAU falls to 6-4, while Michigan improves to 3-0.
FAU managed to score first in the second inning after Robbie Widlansky drew a walk from Wolverines' starting pitcher Derek Feldkamp (1-0). Widlansky (Coral Springs, FL) stole second and advanced to third on a ground ball before McKenna's single up the middle drove in the only run of the contest for FAU.
Feldkamp finished his first start of the season with six innings of work. He struck out three and walked three and allowed five hits. Jeff Niemic came out of the bullpen to pitch the final 2 1/3 innings to earn his first save of the season.
The Wolverines tagged two runs in both the third and fifth innings, with the only earned run coming in the fifth off of starter Mickey Storey (1-1). Three costly errors gave Michigan the go-ahead runs. Making his first collegiate start, Storey allowed seven hits in 4 2/3 innings and struck out four.
Chris Getz led Michigan going 2-for-3 at the plate.
FAU will face the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday in an exhibition game at 1 pm.
