Florida Atlantic University dropped a 9-3 contest to Purdue University Sunday afternoon at FAU Stadium. FAU managed to take the series by winning the first two contests against the Boilermakers.
Purdue (1-2) scored the first six runs of the game as FAU starter Chris Salberg (0-2) took the loss. Salberg worked five innings and gave up two earned runs on seven hits and struck out three. The Boilermakers posted an unearned run in the second before leadoff singles in the fifth and sixth innings hurt Salberg as both runners came around to score.
FAU (6-3) went to its bullpen in the sixth and saw Brandon Kloess give up an unearned run before Jason Costello entered to shut down Purdue in the seventh. The Boilermakers then put up five runs in the final two frames as FAU gave up its second most runs of the season.
Mitch Pruemer (1-0) made his first start in two seasons and carried a shutout into the eighth inning before a two out single by Brian Lipman (Moorpark, CA) plated two runs. Lipman finished the series with a .545 average, seven RBI and two game-winning hits.
Eric Wolfe finished the afternoon 4-for-5 for Purdue with two RBI.
FAU does not have to wait to return to action as Michigan visits FAU Stadium on Monday at 7 pm.
