BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's baseball team dropped a 4-2 decision to the University of Alabama, Saturday evening.
The game was basically decided in the first inning. Alabama (6-0) scored three in the top of the first by taking advantage of three hits, two walks and an FAU (3-3) error. Back-to-back two-out singles in the fourth put the Crimson Tide's final run of the game on the board.
The first four innings for the Owls saw FAU tally just three hits. FAU scored in the bottom of the third. Geoff Jimenez hit a single up the middle and moved to second on a passed ball. Levi Meyer followed with a one-out single. Jimenez took a wide lead at third drawing an errant throw allowing the junior center fielder to score.
FAU's pitching held Alabama scoreless in the last five frames while FAU rallied to score one in the ninth and had runners on the corners when the final out was called. Jake Meiers started his second game of the young season. Meiers tossed nearly 100 pitches in his five innings of work and gave up four runs, three of which were earned. Meiers walked three and struck out four in the loss. He gave way to Jimmy Tornabene, who pitched 3.6 scoreless innings and only allowed two hits. The final out was recorded by Brett Nizamoff who saw his first action of the season.
