BOCA RATON, Fla. - Three pitchers combined for a shutout on Saturday as the Florida Atlantic University baseball team beat Monmouth 4-0 in Boca Raton on Saturday. Jeremy Strawn dealt seven innings, striking out three Hawks.
Bo Logan and Andrew Archer came on in relief for the Owls (4-2), combining to strike out to and allow one hit over the final two innings at the FAU Baseball Stadium.
The only two Monmouth (1-1) hitters to reach third base both reached on errors as the Hawks mustered six hits in the game.
Sophomore Billy Endris opened the third inning with a single, stole second, then advanced to third on a Brendon Sanger groundout. Rocklein then singled through the left side, scoring Endris and advancing Kerr who was hit by a pitch. Santiago walked to load the bases for Levi Meyer who earned an RBI groundout to score Kerr and put the Owls up 3-0.
Freshman catcher Kevin Abraham led off the fourth inning with a five-pitch walk and advanced to second on a single by freshman CJ Chatham. Endris put down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners before Sanger hit an infield single to drive in Abraham, putting FAU on top 4-0.
Monmouth would put two in scoring position with no outs on an error and a double, but Strawn would retire the next three batters in his final inning of work to end the threat.
Rocklein led FAU at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI, including a double in the seventh inning.
