BOCA RATON, Fla. – Marla Keyes and Chloe Sell will represent the Florida Atlantic University’s women’s cross country team at the 2013 NCAA South Regional Championships hosted by the University of Alabama on Friday, Nov. 15 in Tuscaloosa. The two will compete in the women’s 6K scheduled to commence at 12:15 p.m. ET at Harry Pritchett Running Park.
Sell led the Owls in the 5K at the Conference USA Cross Country Championships on Nov. 4 with a 13th-place finish. The sophomore crossed the finish line in 17:46.90, improving her collegiate-best time by nearly 23-seconds. In her second appearance at regionals, Sell looks to drop her time in the 6K to advance to the NCAA finals. She finished the 2012 regional championships in 22:47.00, setting the ninth best time in school history. Sell shattered her record at the University of Florida’s Mountain Dew Invitational on Sept. 14, finishing in 21:46.66 for FAU’s fourth-best time ever.
After finishing the conference championships 5K in 18:37:18 as a freshman, Keyes will join Sell in Tuscaloosa for her first NCAA regionals appearance. She competed in her first 6K as an Owl at UF’s invitational finishing in 22:26.35 for 27th place. In one month’s time, she shaved off just over 10 seconds, running the UCF Invitational 6K in 22:15.47.
Women’s teams from 35 schools across the country will compete on Friday with a total of 255 female student-athletes competing for the top finishes.
“Chloe and Marla, our top two runners of the 2013 cross country season, will gather very valuable experience at the NCAA regional meet” said head coach Alex Smolka. “They will have the opportunity to compete against some of the nation’s best runners.”
