Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Heads to Tuscaloosa for NCAA Regionals

BOCA RATON, Fla. Florida Atlantic University men’s and women’s cross country has the NCAA South Regional next on the docket, at Harry Pritchett Running Park in Tuscaloosa, Alabama this Friday morning.

The Owl women go off first, seven runners deep, at 10 a.m. Eastern in a 6,000-meter race. The 10,000 meters, with five FAU men competing, starts at 11 a.m. EST. Harry Pritchett Park is located at the University of Alabama Arboretum, at 4800 Arboretum Way in Tuscaloosa.

For the men, it will be the quintet of Sean Barone, John Marting, Cristian Moreno, Lachlan Shiver and Jonathan Werble. On the men’s all-time record list, Werble ranks No. 8 and Shiver is 12th in the 10,000 meters. For the women, the squad will be made up of Sophia Clark, Megan Giovanniello, Bethany Hardcastle, Mikaela Jonsson, Erica Lersch, Christina Schultz and Liz Wellman. Of the group, Wellman has the lowest time, ranking her No. 5 on the program’s all-time list. Schultz and Clark have also competed at the distance in prior years.



 “We are extremely excited and grateful to be able to participate at this year’s NCAA Cross Country South Regional Championship in Tuscaloosa,” said Head Coach Alex Smolka. “It’s a very nice culmination of our cross country season. It will give our underclassmen great big meet experience which they can carry forward, and it is a fitting ending to the cross country career for our seniors. Both squads are ready for have great performances.”
