BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University’s Drew Jackson of baseball and Regina Wilkerson of track and field have earned FAU’s student-athlete of the week honors for their performances over the weekend.
Drew Jackson dealt 8.2 innings of work before allowing a run in Sunday's 3-1 win over Southern Miss. The junior newcomer struck out seven in the longest outing of his career. Jackson retired 15 of the 17 batters he faced from the fourth through eighth innings and improved his record to 3-0 on the season. FAU baseball will face Conference USA opponent Marshall on the road in a three-game series starting on Friday, April 4 at 3 p.m. Live stats will be available at www.fausports.com.
Regina Wilkerson competed in Miami on Saturday at the University of Miami’s Invitational. The freshman finished fifth in the 100 meter dash with a final time of 11.86, FAU’s top finish for the event. Wilkerson is now ranked fourth in the conference and holds the top ranking by a freshman in the 100 meter. She went on to finish the 200 meter dash in 24.47 for sixth-place and the fifth best time in the conference. Wilkerson also competed with Deja Jones, Sitia Martinez and Nicole Poole in the 4x100 meter relay. The team finished third with a final time of 46.67. FAU competes in Gainesville this weekend at the 2014 Pepsi Florida Relays at the University of Florida’s Percy Beard Track.
