BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - A number of personal bests and more top-10 showings were posted by the Florida Atlantic University track and field team on Sunday, as the team wrapped the second and final day of the Conference USA Indoor Championship.
- Chloe' Jenkins cleared 1.58 meters in the high jump, entering the FAU all-time best at No. 10
- Esther Mitchell placed seventh in the triple jump, and she's now fifth all-time at 11.26 meters
- Two PR's were achieved in the 3,000 meters: Bethany Hardcastle finished in 10:18.21 and Mikaela Jonsson at 10:27.13
- In the final event of the day, the 4x400 relay team ran to a 3:48.00 time, now No. 3 on the all-time list. The runners Sunday were Sherline Valentin, Ana Holland, Roshelle Francois and Anne-Catherine Wasser
"Our highlights of the meet were Frida's performance in the pentathlon, she stepped up in a big way finishing second, and our DMR scoring for the first time in three years," said Head Coach Alex Smolka. "At the same time, although we did have some nice PR's, overall we left a lot of points on the board. We have a lot of talent on our team, we just have to learn how to put everything together to perform when the lights shine the brightest. We are unsatisfied with the outcome, but will use this experience as fuel for the future. The old expression, `you either win or you learn,' is very appropriate for our team performance this weekend. We learned a great deal, and will be better for it in years to come."
The squad transitions to outdoor events beginning in a few weeks' time. The opener is in Coral Gables, at the UM Hurricane invitational, March 16 and 17.
